If a customer accesses my store from their library, it shouldn't count as a Discover sale.#415

It is as simple as the title.

This can go unnoticed because we usually rely on Discover, but when you have regular customers and you can talk to them. You can confirm that they accessed your store through their library of purchased products, and yet Gumroad takes 10% claiming that it is thanks to the Discover feature. This seems very unfair to me.

When I realized this, I contacted support and they refunded me 10% giving me the reason that it was not correct in that case. Am I supposed to be reviewing every Discover sale and hassling my customers to confirm this so Gumroad will return the percentage? Of course not, please correct this.

Thanks in advance

I have had this issue as well. Especially when people were buying multiple items. I would get several purchases from the same person where the first one has no discover fee and the following would have the fee applied to them. I even tested this with some friends just to confirm it and when we bought an item from each other using our library link and it counted as discover feature which doesn’t really seem right to me. I can only imagine the amount of repeat customers I have had that tried to look me up directly from the library to have them all counted as “discover”

Literally anything but a direct link to the product counts as Discover. Even had one specific instance last week, where I sent a direct product link to a customer to which they then added a discount code and it took a 10% discover fee… it’s getting ridiculous.

I’m all for supporting/paying a fee for sales I wouldn’t get without gumroad promoting them, but this doesn’t apply to any of those use cases.

E*: if someone accesses your store via library/… anything like that, the url gets tagged with a recommendedByLibrary string which inturn turns on discover - you can’t just tell us you’re not aware of that.

it also shouldnt count as a discover sale if a customer uses a direct link to a product. i literally got charged 10% for someone accessing my product through a direct link. it feels like they apply discover fees how they want…

It’s funny because NSFW items don’t show up in Discover results by default, but I STILL get random sales that claim to be brought to me by Discover and get 10% deducted. Explain that one!
